It occurred to me tonight that it won't always be like this.
The snow will melt, our grass will grow fast and furious.
We'll come home, kick off our shoes and slip into our flip flops.
We'll pour something cold to drink and wander our gardens,
pulling a weed here, smelling a leaf or a blossom there.
We'll be complaining about how short the spring was and how early the heat came.
We'll eat freshly picked salad greens,
juicy strawberries and plant our dahlia bulbs.
Maybe this will be the year we make a peach pie.
It's coming. I promise.
I heard it thru the grapevine.
Don't cha know.
Don't cha know.
It always comes back around, the birth of a new season and that's how the world goes round, see, you have snowdrops pushing out! We have to enjoy them all for what they are those pesky seasons :) I am going to hold you to that peach pie, can't wait!
ReplyDeleteI know, today I was telling myself that I never have this much time to read in the summer, I;m always weeding. Gotta try and embrace this winter.
DeleteI picked daffodils today. No snow here....I'm not sure that I like winter without snow. It seems to make the arrival of daffodils a little less exciting.
ReplyDeleteI'll be over for that peach pie. :)
Maybe I should come your way and we'll bake it there. Think you're close to the peach source. Winter without snow? Sound like heaven to me!
DeleteJane...Never having experienced a snowy winter, I am amazed when I see your little beauties popping out of the snow. I am always do delighted to see the daffodils shoot through the pine straw covered beds and the buds appearing on the dogwoods and Bradford pears. I can only imagine the bliss that comes with seeing these after a very snowy long winter. Perhaps my appreciation would increase? Doubtful... I am always awestruck at the early beauty of a Japanese Magnolia... Melting snow couldn't improve that! Stay warm and cozy... Flip flop and peach picking time is on the way.
ReplyDeleteYeah I would have no problem with a warmer winter. It's about 1degree here right now. Staying cosy, eating carbs.
DeleteThank you! I needed to read that after looking out the window at the 13 inches of snow that buried Kentucky this week . . . .
ReplyDeleteIt's unbelievable, you should be cheering me up with stories of spring beauty.
DeleteHope it clears soon. xo
Great post, my friend. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI was sending this off to you all but now that we're in a polar vortex I was glad to reread tonight.
DeleteI would not have been able to take these pictures after work tonight, I would have blown over the house.
Lovely Jane, just lovely.
ReplyDeleteThank you Lisa.
DeleteSnowdrops! you have snowdrops? i've ordered some to plant this spring, but so far I have nothing ... just plain nothing. At least, nothing but snow. Bah!
ReplyDeleteMaybe next week ... xo
I know, much needed snowdrops. It's freaking cold here in the South!
DeleteHrrumph.
ReplyDeleteHey
DeleteI didn't say when.....
I've always had you down as a dreamer, cup half full sort of person. So am I, just not in February!
ReplyDeleteFebruary is the most important month to keep your cup half full. Otherwise it is the cruelest month.
Deleteno, April really is the cruelest month - Chaucer and Eliot were right. I call it the Big Tease!
DeleteShelley, can you please arrange for your massive snows to be finished and gone by March 16th? I arrive that night at Logan for a 11-day family visit and would really like some sunshine & to be able to see the roads! Thanks so much
Deleteand so sorry for everything you-all are going through this Winter. Good luck!

You are right. It's flippin' cold here in northern VA but my one ray of hope is that I have daffodils coming up in the front yard right next to the house. I think the brick of the house keeps that particular bit of ground a little warmer than the rest - which is, as you know, cover with snow. I do not like February.
ReplyDeleteJane,
ReplyDeleteWould you have a specific date available?
Thanks so much. These last two months are always the worst, right? Keep the faith!
