Because Futbol

I want to go to the gym but I don't feel I can leave the house until the France/Nigeria match is over.

I know Elle is taking a long "lunch" today and standing in a bar in DC screaming her substantial lungs out.

So the cats and I watch at home. They are napping, taking a break from their Rumspringa.

Which allows me a break from worry.

Between them and soccer I had to dash to the hairdresser last week. It's all turning me grey. Or at least it was.

Last night we had a birthday dinner for the French Girl. The usual suspects. But this time they carried gifts over with their beers.

And to their surprise were served glasses of pineapple gazpacho, garnished with finely chopped cucumbers, 3 colors of peppers, vidalia onion, cilantro and my first garden jalapeno.

Is it a shot someone wondered?

No, it's soup I said, try it. It went down so nicely on a hot Virginia night I forgot to get pictures.

But I got a shot of the annual shrimp boil.

And everyone whipped out their phones for a pic of the raspberry almond cake, served with whipped cream and more raspberries. These are my kind of people.

Bravo, Senorita Bravo.

There are still 3 pieces begging to be eaten.

But the match is over, France has won!  Happy Birthday mademoiselle from Le Bleu.

I'm off to the gym.

Can't wait for my afternoon (cake) coffee.

    3. Oh, you're quite yummy! Blissed out here today with the yummy fragrance of linden tree blossoms suffusing the sweet, temperate high-70s air. Positively ... yummy!

  2. Futbol has taken us all by storm. Last week at my office I called for a soccer lunch during the USA Germany match, turned the big tv on ordered pizzas and everybody sat in the lunch room with their laptops watching, working and lunching, that's what I call team building...the shrimp boil would have been more fun though.

    1. Now that's the kind of soccer spirit this country needs. Heart broken now but amazed at how well they played. Respect.

  5. Ah ha! Glad peace reigns. I am making a cherry almond cake this morning and worrying that fresh cherries (as opposed to the usual glacé ones) will make it too wet.

  6. Football-free in this house, but, you know, each to their own...... I'd rather have cake. I'm doing a birthday meal for a friend tomorrow, and have an excessive amount of mascarpone/cream/raspberry puree left over from a rather weird ice cream recipe - perfect for topping a raspberry cake, thank you.

  7. The pineapple gazpacho sounds divine! Will you provide the recipe? Our garden has yet to produce the jalapenos but they're comin'!

The cake looks marvelous too - the texture looks similar to the Smitten Kitchen Strawberry Summer Cake. Didn't you make that too? I did. Not difficult but yummy!

Did you buy more cherries? I bought 2 1/2 pounds!

Funny I was standing at Safeway today eating cherries while I read your comment. So I bought em, hell at 2.99 a pound...
