That Ain't My Truck

A week? It's been a week since I've been here?

Since you asked: gym, physical therapy, weeding, coffee and lunches with friends, weeding, work, the library, weeding, eating food Superman has prepared, gym, physical therapy, cleaning up mouse vomit. Same old, same old.

But I did promise you a potting table.

I haven't  put it to work yet but Gus is getting quite a bit of mileage out of it.

It's a great perch to spy a moth or a low flying bird, or just pose prettily for a picture or two.
While the fig tree lay in a great lump on the weeds lawn, I would gaze forlornly at the expanse of brick and wonder what would ever replace the glory of the fig tree that was planted too close to the house.
I thought maybe a funky yet functional potting table and I wondered if I could make one.

Then I laughed and laughed and went on Craigs List. Daily, for weeks.

This one was too far away, this one was too expensive and one day I had my Goldilocks moment:this one was just right.
So I called the number and spoke to the builder.

She had put it together out of pallets ( of course), had painted it my favorite color and would deliver it later that day for $50.00 total.

Done deal.
She arrived in a big black pick up truck, hauled it in the back yard, ran to get her electric screwdriver, put the two pieces together, complimented the garden and told me about her boyfriend. Dammit.

I immediately ordered one for my boss, it was done last weekend and delivered to my house on Tuesday.

Now I need two whiskey barrels to plant on either side on the table, edge and mulch underneath and I think we've got ourselves some garden cuteness.

I'm all about the cute, and pickup trucks.....

Back to Craigs List.

P.S. Marie, if you're reading, my neighbor just left town and gave me the potting mix. I  put it here to add to the flavor of the pic. Not mine, won't use, pinky swear.

PPS: I just got home from Zumba and  am reading the comments and LOL. I realize I didn't make myself clear. Earlier yesterday Gus tried to bring me a small mouse. i thanked him kindly( with a scream) and off he trotted. When he came indoors a bit later there was the vomiting incident. Even Suoerman wouldn't clean it up, that's how bad it was.Sorry, clearer? Though I love the idea of me cleaning up after a little sick mouse...

  4. Get out!!! $50.00, a steal if you ask me, which you didn't but I'll say it anyway. And OK, I'll join in, mouse vomit really? As Shelley say, how do you know, was it tiny, did it have cheese, did you catch the mouse in vomit operandi?

  5. Mouse vomit!
Here in the middle of the city it's rat vomit, and it's easy to figure out because of the, well... bits.
It goes through cycles with our cats, many piles to clean up, then long periods of nothing.
We suspect they have a rat ranch near the compost pile, and that one of them, Emma probably, has a talent for rodent husbandry.

Sweet potting bench - careful about getting it dirty!

    1. It's kind of hard to wrap your head around what you're going to clean up isn't it?

At least it was a little mouse, not a rat. Small mercies.

    1. Yes, a true deal. The boyfriend lives in Charlottsville, if you wanted one you could always pick it up there. Just let me know.

  8. I would love a potting bench but the plants would just see it as a morticians table. I wondered about the mouse vomit too:-)

  9. It's charming and useful. Great color too. What a deal! Craigslist is awesome.
Now tell me what's bad about potting mix. Made in Bangladesh? Toxic dyes? Small animals used?

  10. I am intrigued that you would recognize mouse vomit...
love the potting table and am super impressed by what people are making out of pallets these days. There is a new shop in town that sells things made entirely out of pallets and pallets are everywhere and are free!
The potting mix must have a story...perhaps the next post would shed some light on that?

  11. Well, by the time I returned from traipsing around town...the post scripts had been added so there was no need for me to ask.But I would have!
Right now I have to discover whereverthehell Geiger took her chicken neck to eat it and leave a greasy spot.Somewhere indoors...away from the scary garbage truck...
I may be gone some time...

  15. I find I can clean up pretty much anything so long it's a cat who deposits it. Children's deposits, on the other hand......

  17. Love the potting bench! Had to laugh at the comment about pallets being everywhere and free--not for long, I'm sure. People will figure out they're gold and start charging for them ;)

I can't imagine cleaning up barfed rodent. I can barely clean up canned food barf.

  18. Jane...you should have taken that mouse when Gus first offered. He was just upset that you didn't appreciate his love offering so he did what lots of people do.. He ate to avoid his feelings! Next time accept and then discard... Of course after he wanders away to other pursuits! The potting table rocks... do tell about the soil?
