Through a Screen Darkly

In the thick of it at the shop. Flowers, more flowers and in case we have any space left here come more boxes of flowers.

I've been racing home and planting annuals in the window boxes and some pots dotted here and there around the garden.

Luckily not much watering required.  I plant in the rain. I cook soup while it rains. And nicest of all, I sleep while it rains.

The walk to work? Not quite as nice....

But not to worry about my long hours at work.

The cats are in charge and keeping an eye on house

And garden.
Now I just have to teach them how to vacuum.

 And pick figs.

  1. Jungle kitties! They are so pretty and cute and mischievous...

I love napping while it rains. Soothing sounds and overcast, I guess.

  2. I am not a cat person, which I tell you only to point out that even non-cat people will find those photos very cute. Also the idea of cats picking figs.

    1. Here you are, been missing you.

These are more than just cats.

      They're entertainers.

  3. Nice looking fig tree, orange cat ornaments and all. How many figs do you get from it each year? Do you prune the fig tree every year? Inspired by Marie, I've had a container fig for a couple years that has done really well but requires watering every day in Summer. I pick the ripe figs and eat them in the garden, one by one; they never make it into the house.

Soup and naps while raining are perfect together.

    1. It is usually pruned but this year it got away from me and is already as tall as the house.

Hence the need for agile fig gatherers.

  4. I never thought about it before, but if I were a cat I'd play in a fig tree. The branches are fascinating, and they're usually pretty airy inside, with a good covering of leaves on the outside for privacy. Great cat playhouse!

I'll bet you will be SO glad when Mother's Day is over.

  6. Wouldn't it be wonderful if our cats would vacuum? My sister is a firm believer in color coordinated furniture and cats. I should have listened...

    1. Your sister is right. lesson #1 in my house: don't wear black. Or navy or any dark color come to think of it.

  9. Kitty-cat time here. A very sweet, technically feral mama cat has found a home under one of the townhousrs in our building and gave birth last week to two (only) adorable black kittens, one with bright blue eyes, the other with
bright green eyes. What fun watching them, from a distance of course. ill try to get some photos if possible

  14. How about mow the lawn while they're at it. I'm so jealous of your fig tree, we had one once in another house and as much as I loved it the season up here is soooooo short lived; I don't think I ever got more than 10 figs which I guess is better than no figs. Hope you're resting.
