If You Like Pina Coladas

Clearly I left both my wits and my camera at home yesterday.

I knew I was going to dinner where both the food and friends would be pretty.

And delicious.

But I forgot my camera.

The day had been foggy and rainy, then sunny and humid.

So the pineapple gazpacho was an inspired choice. Recipe and picture courtesy of the Washington Post.

And if summer ever comes to your town I strongly urge you to make this soup. And don't neglect the garnish. Can there ever be enough bites of jalapenos? My eyes were watering when I garnished the soup. And internally I was drooling.

There was a pile of collard greens and ginormous grilled porkchops. Oh, and very garlicky garlic bread.

These people all work out like savages so I could almost watch their bodies burning the calories as they ate.

I don't eat much meat any more. I've been living on grains and beans and vegetables, dairy and fruit.

It appears to be a perfect diet for my body. I had a physical last week and all my numbers were good.  Even my cholesterol, and that had been high the last 10 years.

So I'm going to take my healthy body outside and do a little weeding next door.

Lucy will join me.

Gus is otherwise engaged.

  1. I was just thinking about that song the other day. Happy weeding. I hope you have as much fun as Gus seems to be having.

  2. I hope Lucy finds some really wonderful things to chase in the garden. Plant a snorgle on Gus for me.

    1. I gave him a big one. He raced off in the other direction. So much for snorgles!

  3. I think there's something just wrong about a cold soup. Heat is inherent in soups.

But it is pretty and it does sound delicious. Maybe a salsa for swordfish?

    1. I know, that is my usual reaction. Especially to a soup with fruit in it. But this soup seemed to rock my gustatory world.

    2. I'm with Steve. I can't wrap my brain around cold soup. Seems like I want to call it a smoothie. But I also agree it is pretty!

  6. Hmmm? Pineapple gazpacho, can't imagine it, sure is pretty though just like that little Gus. Glad to hear you are doing well, and you were able to go out and weed. We had rain all weekend therefore I am very far behind.

    1. Both Sunday and today it would weep rain in the morning then suddenly stop. I feel obligated to weed for the mowing so out I'd go.

My garden is a mass of bindweed. Insert frownie face.

Gus often charms his way out of work, doesn't he?

  8. The soup is beautiful. I always think jalapeƱo goes well with tropical fruits. I hope your weeds are not growing as fast as mine. Enjoy the week. Bonnie

    1. The weather is tropical so the soup is perfect. If I had a pineapple I'd make it tonight.

My weeds are as tall as the Washington Monument. C'est la vie.

My neighbors' front beds look pretty swell tho'

  10. I have a recipe for pineapple salsa that I got from my sister. I probably wouldn't have made it myself because as people have said above, the sweet and spicy just sounds odd. Anyway the salsa has black beans, pineapple, cilantro, red onion, red pepper, lime juice, cumin (optional, if I remember correctly) and of course jalapeno. You can pretty much add anything you want. Everyone that I have fed it to likes it...and it's pretty.

  11. Oh my, I have that song in my head now too...I think Gus has the right idea, lay around, maybe some play and let someone else mess around with the weeds.

    Have a fun Memorial weekend.
