Every Picture Tells A Story

Don't it?

Mission Impossible:  2 months bed rest.  3 five minute walks a day.  On leash.  No playing.

2 antibiotics every 8 hours.  Pain meds every 12 hours.  Icing 5 times a day for 15 minutes.  No licking.

Luckily, no time limits on loving.

  2. Hello Jane:
Gosh, this all does sound to be a very demanding routine for both you and Nika. But, as you say,no boundaries given for the loving and we are sure that you will give and she will receive it in spades!

  4. Worst fears realised for you.... when the small dog did her ACL in, I was so relieved to learn that she would manage fine on three legs until things improved, rather than have to go through surgery and all that you are having to bear now.

And dogs are so heartbreakingly willing to endure, aren't they? Big hugs to all. x

  5. Sherri B., she's a good patient unless left alone with cone on head. Then she gets into all sorts of trouble.

Hattat's, I feel i need to take a leave of absence from work just to take care of her1

    Sherri B., Thank you xo

Jane, Thank you, she's such a good girl, only unhappy when left alone. And who can blame her.

rachel, It's all kind of awful now, but we hope to get into a routine soon and then all will simmer down. She suffers through anything except that cone on head. HATES it.

  6. My bestie just went through this with her dog. She had a "suitcase" sort of contraption to help Annabelle with the weight. All are much better now. xoxo

  7. Oh, my, I feel so bad for her. And you. I know how tough it is to manage this kind of situation. If they only understood what they're supposed to do, it would make it so much easier.

  11. That is daunting. My golden (now deceased)had ACL surgery and I was dreading the recovery period, but It went a lot more smoothly than expected. She seemed to know she had to stay quiet. Hope it's the same for you. They do hate the cone--how long does it have to stay on?

  14. Sweet Nika. So glad she's made it this far ok, but what a regimen! It will be difficult for all - much time and much patience needed, all heaped with love.

Sending good thought to the girl! also, virtual treats. xoxo

That you can do all this and not have smoked for a week is a total truimph too.

  20. Oh, Jane. I haven't been by in a week, and look at all the things that have happened. I'm thrilled at your non-smoker status! Sweet Nika looks very comfortable, and I'm sure she will recover quite nicely in your care.

I understand her hating the 'cone of shame'. As long as she's leaving her surgery site alone, it's fine to leave it off. If she starts licking, you'll have to get creative. I used to have to do this with Emma, because she chewed on every lump, cut, and stitch she ever had. At one point, when she degloved a back leg, I resorted to using a tube sock on her leg held up with vet wrap around her waist to keep her from chewing the stitches. The motto is: ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
