Thursday Was Thursday

Yesterday was a perfect day off, if like me you enjoy a day spent cleaning and hanging new shower curtains.  If you love time spent outside on a sunny 70 degree day wrestling with the remains of morning glory on a chain link fence and  attempting to remove weeds growing in a brick path.  And if you have 2 hours to devote to a phone conversation with a friend you've known since you were 15.  Oh, and if you like to indulge in a nap or two.

I struggled to get a picture of the ornamental plum in its glory, without featuring the large hotel that looms over our house and to give you an idea of what I mean by small ( but charming).

Does this give you a clue how to find us?  We'll be open for dining al fresco soon.  And don't forget to stop by for a lemonade on a Sunday afternoon after you've finished doing the museums.

  1. Very pretty; my tulips are only about 2" out of the ground!

Your day sounds heavenly; can't wait to get out there and pull some weeds but it's too cold!

  2. Saving our pennies for a family US trip - that is a whole lot of saving to do! - would be deee-lighted to make a detour for that lemonade (six of us - wouldn't invade for a meal however gorgeous the alfresco dining sounds!!) and a chance to see you on your own Small But Charming patch! Gotta have dreams of big travels and far away horizons regardless of whether they actually happen, don't you think?

I never ever tire of Spring blossom, makes the heart happy. xx

  3. What a lovely, well designed flower bed...I love the turned over pot... Covered with thyme? And who's the black and white guy on the lawn?

I love it too when I have time to wash dishes and fold laundry and clean in the corners..and I love being alone in the house for a day.

  4. Hi Jane,

I would love to stop by! I will take the next plain out to the US ;-)!

That plum tree looks beautiful. What a joy it is to work in the garden this time of year with all the spring flowers in bloom. It's all growing so fast....I can hardly keep up. Each time I go to our garden there is something new to see.

I hope you will have a lovely weekend!

    Lieve groet, Madelief x

  10. Beautiful! And yes, that does sound like a lovely day. It's still a bit cold here in Brooklyn to spend an afternoon outside, prepping the garden for summer - but I'm hoping to get some time in this weekend. Happy Friday!

  14. I love flowering trees. Even if they put all their effort into one week of glory, it's all worth it. Your garden looks great and I look forward to seeing it as the seasons change.

  17. So Jane, I answered your lovely comments on my blog but wasn't sure that you would go back and see them. So do you think the shut down will really happen, then? I knew I should've renewed my passport a few weeks ago - you never know, I might need it in 2012! hahahaha
