My Secretive Garden

Here in the states a strange holiday called Professional Administrators Day came hard on the heels of Easter.  It's actually been changed from day to week since the bosses have to remember to make the calls to request flowers for the people who take care of their business all year long. This can cause problems.  Sometimes they have their wives call.  If I catch the phone I suggest to the wives they might want to get a little something for themselves too, since they're doing the actual ordering......

Anyhoo, after 2 days of this I came crawling home and wanted to hide in the house until I was presentable and able to face conversation.  But as I sank down on my doorstep to check out the mail, I realized I was totally hidden from view and surrounded by glorious scents. Directly in from of me was a broom in full bloom, far too big for its space, but a fantastic shield.

Over to my immediate left is a delightfully invasive patch of the pink lily of the valley, wafting sweetness my way.

And to top it off, to the right is a gardenia topiary I plopped in a pot on Sunday. Blooming away and smelling like the 3rd circle of heaven.

I ducked inside, got my book and the Lab, and we hung out until we were all chill and ready to face the world again.

Is this what they mean by aroma therapy?  Because I'm smiling again.

  1. Hmmmmmmm? Jane! Holding my breath for the rest of this post...a holiday called.....Administrative Professionals Day? Take your gardener to lunch day? Light candles for florists who are going into high gear day? Or Flwrjane Day?
    I like Flwrjane Day?

  3. yea, we had a "few" bosses call and come in today also! No wives though...that's hilarious.
Your secret garden is beautiful! I hide on the porch behind flowering sand cherry trees - nobody can see me while I nap on the hammock my husband so proudly set up!

btw...I vote for flwjane day. :)

  4. I loathe Hallmark Holidays, and most especially Administrative Assistants' Day and Bosses' Day. I used to threaten to fire anyone who celebrated either!

But Flwrjane Day - I'm all in!

Lovely broom, too. I can imagine the scent.

  5. You lost me at scotch broom. The smell makes my nose itch.

You won me back again with the Lily of the Valley.

And then the ass shot made me blush.

  6. Sarah, ahhh then you know, about the holiday and the urge to hide oneself in the garden. Pretty excited about my very own holiday!

Webb, I know< what are these days? Bosses Day? I'm glad you like the scent because a certain someone, who i won't mention by name ( ahem, Urban Cottage) seems to be allergic to it.

Urban Cottage, Get your eyes off my dog's butt! xo

  11. You are kidding about the holiday names, right? Right?? Please tell me its a hilarious joke, because as they say, when America sneezes, we get the cold, and I cannot bear the idea of a bosses' or administrators' special day over here- eeek the world has gone mad!

FlwrJane day is, on the other hand, perfectly right and proper,(and should include the compulsory sniffing of beautiful flowers). Good.

Wishing I had invasive lily of the valley like you. xx

  12. It sounds the tiniest bit ridiculous. Would they not send flowers because they want to, sporadically and occasionally, rather than because they have been told to? It keeps you in business, which is good, but it sounds as though it keeps you in too much business and you need the peaceful shelter of your broom. Down with Makey-Up Occasions.

  14. Funny how Mother Nature works - I've got Hydrangea blooms, but no Gardenia, you've got
    Gardenia, but no Hydrangea!
You got me with the lab butt shot, too. Call me weird, whatever, but I love dog's butts! So cute! I shouldn't have said that. Now I bet you're gonna google me.

  17. You all are the best audience to tell a story to. Your reactions are just what I hoped for....

Green Mama, it's a cytisus scoparius moonlight. Heavelny but allot it a big space. It's almost as big as our house:)

  18. Lol..nature is the best kind of aromatherapy I think. Somehow being outdoors and seeing all it's beauty makes even the most hardest of days better. Here's to a better week ahead Jane.

    Cheers xx Deb
