Flowers In The House Of Fur: October 2013

Well hello there. I'll be your host today.

Jane's had a busy week what with work and "dating", so I told her I've got this one.
It's not like Lucy and I don't know how to take a picture and stick a few flowers in a vase by now.
It's not rocket science people.
And who's craftier than a cat?

The story began when the tall man who lives in the back room and keeps his door closed when he's not home cause the room isn't "cat proof"  (like what room really is?) went on an adventure and brought back a mess of fish and shells.
Jane was all ohohoh about the shells, Lucy and I were a wee bit more interested in the fish...
Unfairly, she, Jane, got both, dinner and some shells.
So today she was being all cute, putting flowers in one of the shells when Lucy brought a dead mouse in the house.

We figured if she liked fish she would love mouse, and we were right!
It was clearly a big hit because she was screaming with happiness and jumping around.
I don't know why she didn't take a picture of it...
After an appreciation ceremony that involved gloves, a broom and dustpan and a plastic bag or two, Jane got back to work, hands trembling with excitement.

When we bring leaves and bits of mulch inside they and we get cleaned up. When she brings them in they become an "arrangement". Lucy thought it needed a little zip so she placed a bowl of quince persimmons nearby. (Thanks for the correction on the proper name of the smelly fruit. It kind of doesn't matter now because I knocked it over before bedtime anyway. Where was I supposed to sit?)

Maybe Lucy found a bit of that fish in there too, because she couldn't seem to get her head out of the bowl.
Then Jane put a little mustard jar on the windowsill by the sink where we'll be sure and knock it over while we're bug hunting. And it will be our fault?

How does it go? Once a mistake, second time a choice?
There's another vase too but quite frankly I'm getting bored by all this and it's very tiring with the constant spell check. I'm a cat for god's sake, not an English student.
I suppose I'll come around and visit you all tomorrow since I've gotten so involved.
Don't worry I'll bring something with:-)

  1. Really it is a nice blog; I would like to tell you that you have given me much knowledge about it.

  2. Hello! Dinah has said my sister and I can do the flowers this time. So we did (and made a much better job of things the She did, if I might say so.)
Pictures of the mouse would have been nice, but...we understand.

  3. Somehow, I don't think they are quinces!

    1. That crazy Gus, he doesn't know one fruit from another. Thank you for the heads up, I shall have him change it immediately!

  4. I don't know what the purple flowers are in the last vase, but they sure are nice for this time of year. I miss the spiders and black blooms of your past holiday compositions.

    1. It's a ivy geranium bloom. Did crap all summer but popped that one out for me just for today.

Let's see if I can come up with a little something spooky next week. Surely the cats will find me a spider or two by then.

  5. If I were you, I would change your password so Gus doesn't have the means to access the Internet regularly, to set back the implementation of his world-domination plot. That cat is way too eloquent and entertaining, and lesser creatures would certainly fall under his spell. Wait a minute ... too late.

I must have had a psychic vision when I posted yesterday. Somehow I missed your FITH reminder, but I posted a flower photo in a vase in the kitchen ... perhaps not independently, since I imagine I HAD to know at some level of my subconscious. (I love your arrangements.)

  7. Love the cat-take-over for today's flower link up. ;) I had cat issues with a bouquet myself this weekend. I'm always amazed at the different things you pull into your bouquets. A persimmon? And an arrangement in a shell? You're a really cool flower gal, Flower Jane. Thanks for hosting the monthly FITH link up! Have a great week!

  8. Good Morning Jane!
I don't have any flowers this morning but thanks for the good laugh...it was even funnier the second time when I read it outloud!

    Happy Monday!

  11. This is adorable. And the flowers so pretty. I have a white rose on my guest bathroom sink. I took a picture of it, but I just couldn't imagine anyone wanting to see it:).

  12. Okay, time to start a Lucy and Gus illustrated books series (picture books for grownups?) --this one is ready to go. You are the best, and those arrangements are awesome too. xo

  13. I like hearing about you in the third person! more is revealed!

How did I know those two would be the star of the show this time? And your house IS so damned charming!

  14. Hi! Back again - I hope leaves count as flowers at this time of year?! Your delicious cats make me miss my big old fluff ball Toffee!

  15. You had to work to catch that mouse! You'd think she'd be more appreciative. It isn't like you clipped it off with a pair of scissors.

  16. I have joined your flower party this morning Jane!
    Love your cat humour.

  17. Excellent work, Gus! the arrangements are nice, too.

Jane, don't think you can ask for spiders when you were less than enthusiastic about a lovely mouse. I foresee lots of sucking up in your future.

    1. We are (all) very nuts, no doubt, but in the quirkiest, wryly funny, most adorable way, no? This is one of the best Blog posts Ive ever seen, truly. Jane (Gus) has outdone even her (him)self, imo.

    2. I know. You would think I (we) we have some shame about writing, er letting one's cat write a post, but no, no shame at all!

  19. Brilliant! Gus should write all posts from now on, he's quite entertaining and talented I might add. What's wrong with a mouse in the house?

  20. I kept telling Steve he needed to pull something together from the garden--since I don't get to go outside!--but he was all, like, "no, I've got to get this painting done!" We could see him outside all weekend while me and the two boys napped until he finally came in to feed us before going back to painting. By the end of the weekend, he was all hunched over like an old man and something about need to go to the choir practice or something like that. Sorry he's missed your party but he wouldn't be much fun.

    Send some fish!

    1. Oh Zazu my little beauty, I sob to think of you and the boys locked up like a princess and 2 princes in the Tower.
I will wrap up some fish immediately and include a mouse corpse that must be somewhere in the yard waiting for me to step on it. Freshly killed by Lucy today! It will make a nice toy for you to play with indoors.
Choir practice my #%%, he probably went out to eat Thai!
      Let's stay in touch.

  21. seriously cute post jane. :)

i have no flowers in my house. :(

  22. Oh Gus... you have outdone yourself! I hope that Jane doesn't put you on restriction or some such nonsense. Maybe Lucy could be a bit more help next time, however, I do understand that mouse chasing does take it out of a girl. Please give Jane my best... I didn't have much to offer in the way of Fall flowers and without a totally awesome furry friend, I was on my own. Do you by any chance have a cousin down South?

  23. Your best post? Ever?
    Incredibly clever and well-done, Jane.

    Actually, it's purrrrrrrrfect.

  24. I am waiting for the mouse picture!
Your house (and cats and flowers too of course!) looks so nice :)

  25. Completely out done by a cat, sigh!! My efforts were pretty paltry I'm sorry to say, photo not even taken today I am afraid, but a pic of all that is still left in the garden. Crazy wild rains and winds have wreaked their final havoc on blooms worth cutting sadly, but still no frosts so the garden still has a kind of last gasp, ragged beauty about it still. The fat lady is about to sing out there though!

  26. I missed FITH, only noticing late at night, and tried to comment - but your blog police wouldn't let me! Trying again now; just wanted to pass on a message from the cats to Gus about not expecting too much of humans when it comes to mice. Humans are just not sufficiently evolved to understand the finer points of mousing.....

    1. He is young and expectations are still high. They figure they have a long time to train me. I feel the same way about them. It's a lose lose situation aver here.
