This Just In
I don't know what happened to last week.
Apparently I was personally responsible for rocking the vote last Tuesday because once the election and Senate races were called and we pumped our fists in the air and cried with happiness, I fell into a state of deep exhaustion that lasted the rest of the week.
At least it was a blue state :-) Go Virginia. And Ohio. And last but not least Florida.
By the weekend we had opened up our hearts and home again to friends. Friday night brought Thai food and our friends Mary and Sarah to celebrate both their baby Jackson's first birthday and my first year of non smoking, which ended on October 31. Thank you all for being so supportive. I quite honestly couldn't have done it without every bit of encouragement both virtually and in reality.
I can't tell you how good it feels to take a deep breath.
Sunday was spent, as all good Sundays are, at the gym, in the garden and in the kitchen cooking up something delicious for our garden mentors, Geoff and Chuck. They brought eggs, a blueberry crumble and the sad news that indeed the rest of our leylands need to come down, and come down soon before they fall down.
Just as I was about to start a fund for Leyland Relief, our neighbor Nelda, who is to leave for a year in Afghanistan to help with rebuilding, specifically of the roads, offered to pay for the removal of our trees if we watch her garden for her while she is out of the country.
We would have cared for it anyway but don't tell her now.
Which just goes to show you, as GG always says, everything always works out in the end.
The End.

Between the elections and Sandy last week was exhausting. And I was barely touched by the hurricane. Can only imagine how traumatized so many are. Nice to see things returning to normal for those who can--I felt that way this weekend too. Love reading about the kitties/babies/ good food and friends in your life.
ReplyDeleteYou're right, there was much more that just the election. We can't just throw it all off can we? This is a good but exhausting thing.
DeleteDRAT! I've been hoodwinked!

A year???? Really???? Oh my. Where did the time go?
ReplyDeleteWe share your election result joy and relief....
You passed the one-year mark. Yes!
ReplyDeleteAn enetire year? Am so proud of you. And also of our (temporarily ?) blue state. Now we need to seek. some advice from our friends in Maryland on how to pass a referendum.
ReplyDeleteHave you considered Emerald arborvitae? Shorter, more expensive and slower growing, but oh so lovely. Just a thought... xoxo
Congratulations, Jane. On the anniversaries, the get togethers and the wonderful neighbours ... oh, and on Obama too!

ReplyDeleteThrilled for you on the one year! Now it's all behind you, you won't remember what it was like and won't crave it again. I promise. I'll take a little credit for the election too. Oops, we did it again :)
ReplyDeleteI was so sorry to see that NC didn't go blue this time around, but it was all okay in the end (and as they say, if it isn't okay, it isn't the end - or something like that).
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your one year anniversary. I know personally how hard that is, but also how worth it (I'm at almost 16 years). Yay for you!
No smoking, one year birthday and reelection! Doesn't get better than that! xo Denise
