The baddest cat in the whole damn town , Pokey Pokerson was laid to rest under her beloved boxwoods today. She was covered with flowers from every corner of her yard. The stone that marks her spot was adorned with sprigs of fresh rosemary. There is a pot of basil by the boxwoods this summer and she would crawl out smelling like a big bowl of pesto.
We will remember her.
The condolence notes are already coming in. Here's one from my former partner Tony:
" I am surprisingly sad to hear this news considering she was possibly the meanest ( or fiercest) cat I've ever known..."
20 years old, only the good die young.
Sleep tight my someone. Sleep tight my fierce little love.
So sorry, that hurts. But wow, 20 years old? You're lucky.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry, Jane, to read about your Pokey. You went through lot together during her long, happy life.
ReplyDeleteThat we did. And never easily:-)
DeleteWow, 20 years is a long time. It is so sad to lose our furry friends. I still miss our two little guys. Followed us everywhere just like little dogs.
ReplyDeleteahhh, so sorry jane. i had the biggest, badest cat on the west coast, maxwell. they would've made quite a team.

They could have run for office together!
Deletedogs are wonderful, donkeys are delightful, rabbits are adorable, but cats do rule. What a gal. Bringing virtual flowers to her little resting place. Bye Pokey.
ReplyDeletelove, Shelley
Jane, I am so sorry for your loss. It is difficult when we lose our little friends.
ReplyDeleteOh Jane, so sorry. Little salute from across the pond.
ReplyDeleteRest easy, Pokey.
ReplyDeleteOh, no; I'm so sorry!!! Twenty years is a life well lived but I know you'll still miss her. Hope you two are doing okay.
ReplyDeleteWe used an entire box of kleenex while at the vet's. But we feel better knowing she's at peace and in no pain.
DeleteI'm so sorry, Jane. Love to you all and R.I.P. Pokey. :(
ReplyDeleteI remember when Ros would chase her around and around the house in the morning to get her back inside before we went to work.
DeleteOne crazier than the next there:-)
It sounds like Pokey had a good long life and I am sure whenever you smell fresh basil you will think fondly of her.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for your loss. 20 years is a long time.
So sorry. You shared a lot of years with her. I love the pesto image and the posy.

Ok, I'm trying here..ahh, girls that darn cat..in the universe with an endless supply of catnip, not so bad, except for us humans. Love to you...
ReplyDeleteThanks Chrissy, I want you to know it took 3 shots to take her down. Well 4 total. 1 sedative & 3 shots of potassium chloride. Pokey,a fighter to the end.
DeleteA glgantic, long hug for you. It's losing a part of your life and so hard. Wish i could help.
ReplyDeleteOh, I am sorry....our pets are so important to us.
ReplyDeleteHello Jane
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for your loss. I am sure Pokey would love this obituary. What a great life she lived and that you allowed her to be bad is wonderful. A cat needs attitude to survive. I know she will be missed.
(My friend buried her dog recently in the back yard and she played "Candle in the Wind")

May she rest in peace. I am very sorry for your loss, and very happy for your lovely obituary.
ReplyDeleteMay sweet dreams carry her close to you, dear Jane.
ReplyDeleteLoved Pokey's Halloween post- your picture captured her beautifully- RIP Pokey x
ReplyDeleteBig hugs Jane. 20 years, wow, that is amazing, and big shoes to fill.
ReplyDeleteAmanda xx
Oh Jane that is so hard. All my cats have been mad and bad but always so loved. I really, really do know how you are feeling and send you and GG big hugs. xxx
ReplyDeleteJane, sweetheart, I'm sending you a big hug this morning. Everyone needs the company of a bad-ass cat in their life ... They teach us so much. I'm really sorry.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for your loss. I cry ridiculously over cats. I had a nasty natured cat years ago--Peaches. She didn't like anyone but me and some days she didn't even like me. I still cried like a baby when the vet ruled out anything treatable and we chose to put her down. We're sending hugs your way today.

ReplyDeleteLiving with.. and loving a fierce, tiny little bundle of attitude,Sati, who is sure she is a mountain lion and has our huge dog cowed, I am sympathetic to the mixed feelings you have about losing Pokey. But when they are sweet, they are very, very sweet and I know you will miss Pokey.
ReplyDeleteSorry. Just saw the three shots to take her down comment and freaked :(
ReplyDeleteI am sorry she was in pain. Glad she is in the garden. I hope my kitty gets 20 years.
Oh I know, I know, and I'm so sorry. 20 years is a wonderful life and yet not nearly enough.

ReplyDeleteSo sorry for your loss. We do love those kitties, even the meanest and "baddest" ones :)
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, Jane. I know how hard that can be. I know she had a good, long life with you, and who can ask for more than that?
ReplyDeletePeace,
Karin

Oh.... so sorry. No matter how old, or how timely, it's still a terrible loss. Big hugs.
ReplyDeleteJane..big hugs. Sinead x
ReplyDeleteI am so sad for you. It's just the hardest thing in the world, losing an animal - a pet, a kindred soul, a symbol of everything that's right with the world. What a wonderful life she had with you.
