Mayday , Mayday, Mayday

What happened to me yesterday?  I woke up at 7:00 and was dizzy as could be.  Dizzy and nauseous.  Lying down or getting up from a prone position was like being on a ride at an amusement park.  I missed the first day of May, one of my favorite dates.  I like to pick little bouquets from the garden and give them to friends and neighbors.  Not this year though.  This year I liked to lay as still as possible.  While on the couch I had the Lab to take care of me.  When I would reel into the bedroom for a change of scenery I had the cat on the bed, curled up and waiting.  Waiting for what you might wonder having seen pictures of her scary self, but she turned out to be a pretty good little nurse.

Today I can stand up and sit down without fearing I'm falllllliiiiinnnnggg.  And I did venture out into the garden to see what gifts the garden left me for May Day.

White iris from my friend Betty's garden, Red Charm peonies just flirting with us, and the finely cut but largely scented Miss Kim lilac.  I"m starting to feel better already.

Spanish lavender, soon to be covered with bees, and a lab snapping after the bees.

A little pink rose called Mary, given us by GG's mother in 2005.  All the plants Giti gave to us always bloom in memory of her.  We haven't lost a one.

And our micro rose Baby Love, full of tiny blossoms and loaded with buds. A gift from our garden mentors, Geoff and Chuck.

Clearly the garden had a better May Day then I did.  As soon as I dare to bend down I'm going to go and cut myself a beautiful bouquet to bring the outside in.

And now I'm off to see how you all fared.  Judging by all the new posts on my blog list I have some good reading ahead of me.  Though today I'll be moving very sloooowly.

xo Jane

  2. Don'tcha hate that feeling? I had that yesterday too but I was painting my ceiling with Kilz so I thought it was the fumes. I usually love high VOC products.

Hope you're feeling better so you cut some flowers and show us your cute little bouquets.

  5. I've had that awful dizziness twice. Hate it for you. I did see a doctor after the second time, and she did a few tests and then declared that I should have come in while the dizziness was going on. (Since it happened the on Christmas day, it was pretty unlikely I'd get in to see a doctor!) She didn't seem to think it was anything important. Hope it doesn't happen again! Take it easy, and I love your roses! Karin

  7. Poor you. I'm on my way with upmarket rice pudding and a hot soothing cloth for the forehead. I hope you get to lie down with a heap of novels and have a good rest before you burst freshly blonded upon the world once more.

  8. Several years ago I had a very bad attack that sounds identical, only with lots of throwing up* and a terrifying blackout thrown in - and the emergency doctor diagnosed viral labyrinthitis, which was running like wildfire through the area at the time. Thankfully it only lasted a day and a half, although it was another week before I dared drive.

And on Friday night I had a mild recurrence, so you have my deepest sympathy. It is just an awful affliction, and requires lots of TLC and some pampering.

*I have never been able to eat lemon sole since.....

  12. It's probably inner ear. I had it for a few weeks and finally went to my doctor who gave me these great exercises to do that move the little "rocks" back into place. It was the best treatment for it, and takes about two minutes three to four times a day. Let me know if I should send you instructions.

    Your garden is a wonder.

  13. Poor you, what a grim turn you are having, hope the improvements gather apace. Your garden, on the other hand, is quite in the pink - so many gorgeous blooms. Gift plants are one of the great gardening joys, lovely memories, people, gardens, snippets of our histories. Its enough to make one feel quite poetic really!

ps don't go in and slave at work if you still feel giddy, will you?

  16. Oh Jane really hope you are feeling a little better and have been to the doctor's. Such a horrible feeling. Gorgeous flowers - love your roses particularly and it's strange that cats often know when we are not feeling 100% and are good little 'fur nurses'!! xx

  18. Take care of yourself. Hope this goes fast, or that you hie thee to the doctor. Your garden is looking great! Don't you love Miss Kim? Ours is nearly done already. The flowers are nearly all white, but it still smells lovely. Peonies coming on strong. Take care. xoxo

  22. I didn't read all the other comments, so probably you have already received fantastic advice. I, however, just had this happen to me. It seemed connected to a migraine I had. I went to the chiropractor and he adjusted me and the crazy feeling of being on a ship went away. I hope you get better soon!
