If You've Got It, Flaunt it

I know, I know, totally MIA.

Mothers Day with it's 12 hour work days. Garden on Sunday, Elle's grandparents visiting from France for a 4th of July dinner on Monday night, ribs and corn on the cob ( the word "bon" was used with wild abandon) a friends surprise birthday dinner on Wednesday brings me to the here and now.

Home. The house is clean (ish), the lawn is mowed and I 'm surrounded by vases of red charm peonies.

A big storm is predicted and I would rather they burst open in a firework display of petals on the table than be battered down in the garden.

This may be the last of them but more beauty awaits.

So let's do it. Monday the 19th. Flowers in the house.

Ca va?

  1. I've been trying to get a decent photo of a phalaenopsis, knowing this was due...we're having some stormy weather, too.I may have to visit a florist!

    1. Support your local florist! We'll all thank you.

  2. This year, I was relatively thorough with installing, peony supports in the garden. We will see if these make much of a difference in how well the peonies come through tonight's rain.

Don't know if I will photograph them or not, but I have four roses, from the garden in a coffee cup on the kitchen windowsill. Spring was a long time coming, and it is most definitely welcome.

    1. Oh roses in coffe cup please, we all need some flowers.

Every year I mean to support all the peonies. Every year I don't.

Apparently I learn nothing from history.

  3. Wow, your peonies opened way earlier than mine and you have been very busy! Can you believe the amount of rain that we got last night?!! Better check your basement for water. We got some in through the window well. It probably looked like a fish bowl during the night. The yard is a swamp.

    1. Red Charms are always the first to open. Though i see the others are about to burst.

OMG that rain. My back yard was a swimming hole again. Please remind me to clean out that drain tomorrow!

  4. Peonies and rain just don't mix. You were smart to bring them in to enjoy them. I don't think they last any less time either.

    1. My new mantra: should have picked them all!, brought them on the Ark with the cats.

  5. Those peonies look gorgeous. Mine have barely emerged. Our spring is even later than usual here in Minnesota this year, even the flowering crabapples haven't bloomed yet (they "usually" bloom by Mother's Day). But I'm game for FITH, although my contribution might be a bouquet of dandelions! (And perhaps a few purchased flowers, with the excuse that I'm supporting my local florist!)

  7. I have 4 types of peonies. One has opened and gone now for over a week, but two more types are opening up. I am glad they escaped the storm last week. I can't wait for them to open fully. They smell sooo sweet and fresh. I am ready for FITH! I hope you will like it.
