Don't Let The Sound Of Your Own Wheels Drive You Crazy

Complete radio silence for over a week? Totally not me you're thinking.

But really, can you stand to read one more post about recovery?

Cause that's all I've got. Oh and my first week back at the shop.

Work was, well work. Lattes, laughs and a bit of anxiety on all our parts. What would I be able to do?

I can design as long as the container is no taller than 6", luckily we do lots of compact arrangements.

I can design as long as my coworkers fill the containers with water, place them in front of me and then take them away when I'm finished. Takes a village.

The first day, I took a 4x4 cube, taped it and started to add flowers. Suddenly I had an arrangement.

This was so exciting I filled as many orders as I could get my hands on. One might say I did too many.

My co workers did. As did Shelley who sweetly called me to see how my day was going and suggested I might want to go home soon. I thought longingly of my bed and my ice machine pumping freezing cold water around my shoulder. It seemed like paradise.

The rest of the week I tried to take it easy.

6 hours would be optimum. 7 is a stretch and 8 is a psycho killer. I take time out to stretch and sometimes just sit. I like to call it spring break.

Seems like the only spring we're getting in these parts.

Today we had our usual Monday winter storm so both Doctor and Physical Therapy appointments were rescheduled.

A friend came to visit and do some shoveling. She said I must be going crazy at home.

No way, I'm crazy about being home. Yesterday I went out to a movie, Saturday night out to dinner.

Both days included  books and baths, naps and long nights sleeps. How could this be boring?

Some days I feel I should be further along, other I'm flooded with gratitude for all I can accomplish.

I can finally put on a bra, jeans, lace up my trainers, put on eyeliner, sweep a floor, change my own sheets, roughly chop an onion, do flowers.

I'm 3 weeks out ,as medical parlance goes , and everyone seems pleased with my progress except me.

Unlike Alicia Keyes, I am not Super Woman, nor does anyone expect me to be but me.

Take it easy, trying to make that my new motto.

Remind me, would you?

    1. Different doctors, right? And mine had me muscle the hell up in advance so I would be ready to be set free from brace one week after surgery.

And it's just a sports bra, no bells or whistles. Tho I do have to pull it over my head.

  5. Go You! I'm sorta more impressed that you are dealing with yet more snow.

Bet the kitties are over THAT :)

It's very soul-expanding to be able to accept help in the spirit of which it is given.
That's the lesson here really, isn't it? Glad you have that village.

    1. It is a humbling experience. I just had to ask a stranger to help me off the bus so I didn't face plant in a big snow mound.

Gus seems to love the snow he's outside right now. Lucy is curled up on the radiator where she has spent the last 6 weeks,

    1. They seem to expect even more in PT, just trying to go with the flow. It's a fast moving river tho..

  7. Jane, take it easy and slow. You are almost done. Don't over use your arm, otherwise you might need more time to recover. I will be out of town for a few weeks. Will come by the shop for a visit when I get back.

  10. Of course I was worried about you. Of course you are pushing yourself.

It is a low recovery and I have no good advice, except to try to slow down a little, step, back, trust your instincts.

I love that photo. I was a clever person I'd figure out a way to print it out and keep it. I'll come back to look now and then. xo

  11. Oh Jane, you are such a good sport. My shoulder doesn't require surgery and I've been whining and moaning for weeks now.

  12. I thought of your yesterday when I saw where all the snow was going. They say a spring snow is a poor man's fertilizer...so that's the silver lining, I guess. Glad to hear you're doing well.

  13. So glad to hear you're doing better .... but sounds like a little too much too quick, I think. You don't want to have a set back right when spring finally does arrive. Keep treating yourself good....you deserve it girl! ♥

  14. Happy to hear you start work again and are feeling a bit better! Don't speed up your recovery too much. Hope you are being pampered at home :-) Take care!

  16. You're a force, Jane. A force! I like that you're savoring your time at home AND rocking it at work.

  17. Jane...all things in moderation! Sometimes the ability to push the limits of our being is required...sometimes...not so good. Be strong, but sensible and work toward healing. When you are not here you are missed...take care. Susan

  18. Slowly, slowly is best so that the body can heal itself well, so it's a good job that the snow is blanketing you in. So glad you're back to blogging and doing so well.

  19. Take it easy! Reminding you as instructed. I'm sorry spring break is not quite as expected, both body and weather-wise, but good things take time, or so the saying goes. xx
