The Few, The Brave, The Florists

Ah, not only the pressure of a major holiday but now the pressure of a major ice/snow storm.

What's a florist to do?

Start the day at Physical Therapy.

Then take those freshly stretched and massaged muscles into work and freak out?

No, actually, keep your head down, fill the orders, call Thursday's clients to see if their wives are really going to be at work. No? Home address please?

The Governor has declared a state of emergency. Schools, government and churches will be shut down.

But never fear.  We'll be in place.

We've got flowers.

We've got orders.

And clearly we've got mush for brains, because we're going in.

The question remains.  Will we get out alive?

To Be Continued......

  1. Oh my dear, I feel for you. (And for my poor mailman, who makes his rounds on foot, no matter how snowy or icy.) Some people just don't get snow days. During last week's storm I went to the grocery store and there was no one there, except the employees.

I love those jonquils (?) with the ruffly orange tips. Wonderful closeup of the grape hyacinths--they look like they are talking to each other.

    1. The muscari probably all have teeny tiny cocktails in their unseen by human hands as they chat amongst themselves wondering what all the fuss is about!

  2. I hate to be a downer but I really detest valentines day. Every finger is wrapped in band-aids from processing a bazillion roses. I couldn't talk one husband into a ranunculus or a lily to save my life today. why must they all have red roses .... I volunteered to deliver.

I hope you survive! be safe ♥

    1. Thank you. We're lucky, we have flower cleaners to do all the dirty work.

And our customers are educated enough that surely half of our orders are arrangements with a few roses included.

The dozen of roses people occasionally venture into colored roses and sometimes we can convince them to have them cut short are arranged in a short cylinder or cube.

      Thank God.

Hope you get lots of smiles and thank yous when you show up at their doors.

      xo

    2. There is so much more to life than red roses! It's a Hallmark hoax!

My dad gave my mom red roses for 25 years and she hated them. I think that was part of her grounds of mental cruelty when they divorced!!

    3. I told my husband I would like ranunculus(i?) and peonies; looking forward to flowers - he usually forgets . . . have to take what I can get!

  3. Yikes!
I know the snow can wreak havoc; one year when I still lived in NY a wild hare of an April (!) snowstorm blew through and wiped out all my tulips and daffodils that had started to bloom.
Stay safe, kiddo. Maybe you could Skype them their virtual flowers on ♥ day and then deliver afterwards?

    1. OMG what a great idea, Vday itself is supposed to be in the 40's, we just have to trude through the snow to get orders ready for Friday.

Though when I look outside at the rapidly accumulating snow I have to wonder....

The flowers are really lovely. Will be sending you good thoughts... Remember the little engine that could...I think I can, I think I can.....I think I can.... Blessings to you, Dear Jane!

  6. Forget the postal worker. Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these florists from the swift completion of bloom arrangement. Be careful, okay?

  14. Just a few years ago I drove to work on Valentines day.. 15 miles of ice packed roads, grumbling all the way. But the flowers... They called my name long and loud.. I had to answer. Thanks for the stunning flower photos, my brown-eyed-handsome-man assured me I would get flowers once we get home. Wish they could come from your shop...

  15. I have worked in a florist shop part time for Valentine's day. What a crazy hectic day. The only great thing is the beautiful flowers, which you most definitely have to work with, in those photos. Best wishes to you on a not too crazy day and a good restful weekend.

  17. All those flowers. Mmmm I wanna take a hit. Can't imagine the chaos. You're a better woman than I. I couldn't have dealt with Valentinian madness and nasty nature on the same day.
