By The Time I Get To Phoenix

Or into surgery, you'll be rising...

7:30 Thursday morning.

I'm as ready as I never hoped to be.

Prescriptions filled. Prayers said. Mani-Pedi done. Had wished  for hair cut and color but Valentines got in my way.

Who's going to see you my Physical therapist asked. Well I am. Not covering the mirrors in crepe.

My guardian angel friend Susan drove through a blizzard to get down here from the Cape.

She has the dubious pleasure of watching over me for a while.

She has a cat thing though, so we'll see how long she makes it.

They are slightly cabin feverish these days those cats.

They hid a necklace of Elle's this weekend. Much alarm. And tonight stole her second porkchop out of the pan while she had her back to them eating dinner.

Wonder how long she'll make it. Maybe she'll pack up and go to the Cape with Susan?

Anyhoo, I'm operating in a state of high anxiety and will be very glad when this is over and I'm not worrying the future.

Cross your fingers, say a prayer, burn a candle or do a little dance. Whatever you think will help.

And maybe Susan will be my scribe for a little bit so I can report back while living in a persocet haze

See you on the other side.

  1. Jane... My thoughts and prayers are with you today. Prayers for those healing hands that will fix your problem and those on the other side taking care of you. I know Gus and Lucy will be on their best behavior...maybe they will win Nurse Susan over with their style and good manners! Blessings to you...Susan

  4. I'm a habitual candle-lighter. I shall do so. In my moments of high high anxiety I imagine the smell of a linden tree. Some people imagine the beach; I've tried that and I just worry the imaginary people are saying I look fat. So I go to my happy place of a lush green park with linden trees in bloom.
Best wishes and I'll light a candle.

  5. I will cross my fingers, light a candle, say a prayer, probably not do a dance but I will be thinking about you. We will all be thinking about you....the power of the collective.

Happy dreams while you're relaxing. ♥

  7. I'll light a candle for you Jane, one of my new ones in a pink heart-shaped glass, that should do the trick. And I'll do a little dance if you think it will help. Don't forget to chant my mantra - all will be well and all will be well.
Gus and Lucy will have sensed that something is afoot and are making sure of good, solid food for whatever lies ahead! (Had to laugh!) I remember years ago thinking that my dog, Bella, was very ill, having sicked up a pool of bright yellow. Then I noticed that half a pound of butter was missing from the table!
Hope you'll be feeling fine soon, Rx.

  9. I'm wishing you a speedy recovery, my dear! I had that same surgery a couple of years ago and it was not fun. You'll learn how to do all sorts of things with one hand for a while, but you'll make it - I have faith! Do take care of yourself. xo

  10. I'm putting a posey by my chair for you.

Been there, done that and i PROMISE you will feel better in three days. Week five is tough, but other than that, it isn't the worst surgery in the world.

Will be sending good thoughts and green light your way. xoxo

  11. We're endlessly hospital visiting at the moment - my 92 yr old MIL has just had a (5 1/2 hour) mouth cancer operation. She's quite remarkable - a real inspiration. Best wishes to you; speedy recovery. X

  13. What a good friend Susan is. She'll hold your hand, pump you up with coffee and you'll be on the road to recovery ASAP. And I'm sure she'll love the cats, maybe even want one when she gets back home.

  23. I'm with the dancers and thought of you every moment I moved to the joyous music of Cape Verde, via a wonderful Putumayo CD. Soon, that will be you, happily dancing around -- and able to lift things, pain-free. So much caring and affection aimed your way; isnt that lovely? Hugs, Diane

  24. Nothing much better after surgery than a drug-induced haze. Enjoy it, and take the proper amount of time to heal. Wishing you well, dear.
