The Armchair Traveler

Now I'm not sure if you all know I'm a crap flier. Claustrophobic at best, wanting to get off the plane when over Atlantic Ocean for example. " Excuse me, I'd like off get off the plane now" has been said by me. Hopefully none of you were on that flight.

But it is time to get out of my comfort zone so I have booked a flight to Florida to visit my dear friend Susan.  She offers much in the way of succor: 3 dogs, delicious meals, a wicked sense of humor and facial appointments.

Next Saturday, the 2nd of March, I'll be off with my carry on and my xanax.

I'll be back March 5 with smooth skin and perhaps a hint of color.

I'll start with a 2and a 1/2 hour flight and if successful, longer distances beckon.

If not successful you'll see me on the news.

The Universe must have something big in store for me.

I'm trying to meet it half way.

(And to keep all of you entertained).

Do you know what my New Year's resolution was? Did I tell you?

It was to say "yes" more often.

Dammit. What ever happened to drink more water?

Go to the gym 3 times a week?

Eat more greens?

Ah well, onward and upwards people.

xo Jane

  1. A change of scenery could do you good right about now, I would think. I am a big believer in stepping out of your comfort zone from time to time. And VERY good resolution, by the way. I like it!

  4. Ah, yes. Funny, I'm fly phoebic, but once I'm up, I'm fascinated by the ground. If I could 'beam' somewhere, I'd be happier... but five hours to Cali is better than four days!
I'm proud of you...we can never get enough nurturing! More cat posts! Please!

    1. More cat posts? Really? I had to restrain myself from posting some random cat posts in this. But it seemed like a stretch to include them in my travel plans.

Wait, my friend Susan is cat phobic....i could have worked that and them in. Damn.

  5. Well, this is really good news, and kismet. I landed in this country on a March 2nd many many years ago for the first time...and in Florida no less. The beginning of a really good lifelong journey, you'll see.

You never want to step out of a plane over the Atlantic, you could land on a cruise ship. In my opinion, no worse fate...

    1. Jajajajaja. I don't think there is anywhere to step on a cruise ship anymore. Yuck.

But I will take great solace in the concurrence of dates.

      Feeling lucky.

  7. Good for you! Make that door fling wide open, don't just wait for the knock.

Bring juicy magazines or a good book, something to engross your thoughts. Maybe some chocolate too with that xanax. Bring pictures of the kittens and dogs, so you can hypnotize yourself.

Ha Ha to Amelia - you wouldn't want to land on a cruise ship.

Enjoy the trip, the facials, the sun, the hugs and wonderful shoulder being offered.

    1. All good suggestions. Thank you. I never remember a thing I read on a plane but I always bring several books!

  8. Well, I started following you just in time to watch GG depart. My sympathies. Those things suck all the way around and there's no getting around it but a trip to Susan's sounds like a great diversion.

Plus, I love the name Jane.

  11. Mini vacations are wonderful! They don't break the bank and never require a month to catch up upon return. Thoroughly enjoy your time away :)

  15. Just remember - when you are flying and you hear all those noises in the bottom of the plane - that is just those giant chicken legs that are walking along - keeping that big airplane up in the air - they can walk on water - over mountains - good chicken legs!!!

  17. I have a flying mantra too - All my journeys are safe. All my journeys are safe. Repeat after me! In the meantime I know that your 2.5 hour flight will be a good practice run for the flight to NZ which will take a little bit longer and give me more time to get your room ready. xx

  22. I have a newspaper clipping from a zillion years ago that states that all trips are spiritual in nature, and if we are open, we can lean a whole lot about ourselves/others while /as we travel.

My dad was a pilot-you ARE safer in the air than on the ground. Period.
Knowing the stats doesn't make me love flying like he did, though.

Noise cancelling headphones, a new book/mag, and you'll be right.
(I've been back and forth to Australia three times; if you have a flight with pay tv/movies/internet, get it- really worth every penny!)

Oh, and your friend's name is Susan? Well then we know she is awesome, so it's worth your angst to go, LOL.

  26. I doff my hat to you on your bravery. I too am extremely claustrophobic and have not been on a plane in 22 years. Buses are no piece of cake either, if I can't have a door to bail out of when I want, I am not going. Hence I am no world traveler except here on the net. I wish you a wonderful trip, smooth easy flying and much pampering in the warm sun. Enjoy it for all us rooted to the ground souls.
