The Guardian

Firstly, thank you all for all your kind comments on the last post and the decorations.

Secondly, I have just finished reading Wolf Hall And Bring Up The Bodies, both by Hillary Mantle and both about Henry the 8th and Thomas Cromwell so I am in a very" firstly" frame of mind.

But I digress. I know it's the holidays and I should be decking the halls...

I just wanted to take a moment and sing the praises of the Lab.

Not only has she opened up her home and her dog bed to the kittens, she has appointed herself their legal guardian.

Last night all 3 of them were cavorting about in the yard while I cooked dinned. I keep the screen door propped open and the main door ajar so everyone can rush in and out willy nilly.

Suddenly both Nika and Lucy were running from room to room, coming into to talk to me in the kitchen, then running outside again.

I realized Gus, Mr. Hollywood, was missing from the pack.  After I searched the ( v.small) yard with a flashlight I came back inside to continue dinner. But not the Lab.

Even though I was cooking BEEF, she stood side by side with Lucy, scanning the street, waiting for the prodigal son to come sauntering home.

And return he did, maybe 30 minutes later. Dirty and demanding dinner, totally unapologetic.

Nika got fed first.

She's our heroine.

What a big, beautiful, well trained (unless there's a rabbit or SQ about) dog.

( Now,we return to our regularly scheduled Christmas program )

  1. Open and vulnerable to animal love right now. What a sweet story.

    1. They're a love story themselves aren't they, the relationships we have with our critters.

  2. Love the ever faithful Nika.

But, I can't figure out what is in the background of the first picture. I'd say the Washington Monument, but I don't think that's quite right.

Have both of Mantel's books on my Nook. After I finish Tana French's "Broken Harbor", she's next.

    1. Steve, I know me too but there is NO stopping them. I would have to wear ear plugs in order to think over his constant wailing. I married a banshee.

  5. Nika's such a dear! Kitties will be fine outside, they're very resourceful. My neighbor has three and they saunter all over the place, driving Max a tad batty when they're in my yard. I always get nervous cause they cross the street without looking! Kids, kids with nine lives. Those babies are growing.

  8. Your twin kitties are like mine, one smooth and one fluffy. I have not noticed that before. Nika's white spots on her tummy and throat ... Ruby has those. Love the looks on everyone's faces.

  9. What a good girl! So then there IS hope for by 7-month old lab-border collie mix. At this point her only interest in my three cats is to chase them and pounce in their general direction. Your cats looks so regal sitting together like that. I just recently started following and have to tell you that I love the tone of your posts-- you are quite funny! Take care.
