Feverishly cooking our way through Sandy. GG made beef stew and egg noodles. We just stuffed acorn squash with onions, garlic, zucchini, ground turkey, parmesan and ricotta and will serve it with a brown rice/ black barley/ daikon radish seed pilaf.
I know, I know, we're such hippies.
I'm rolling the idea of pumpkin muffins around in my head but don't know if near hurricane conditions allow me to break the ban on eating sugar.
hahahahahah.
And if the power goes out?
Not sure. We picked up a couple of cans of sterno and figure we can rig up a heat and eat station. We are our own caterers.
I also have a pot of espresso made and ready to drink.
It seems so odd to think of the government shut down, airports closed, no buses or metro running. Guess they want us all to stay home, huh?
Unfortunately with the government closed there is no early voting in Maryland or DC today or tomorrow.
And we all know every vote counts.
Thank all of you who came to FITH and than invited us to your house. It was a great distraction and I got to go to Australia and see a bowl of lilacs, all purple and beautiful, just sitting there screaming spring.
Thanks. I needed that.
And before I go, in case you were wondering what the kittens have been doing to help in our time of worry and stress.
Cleaning the bathtub.
And hanging the new liners.
And we need new liners why?
Maybe cause they liked to hang on the old ones.
Whoops.
We have just lost power once and the light are flickering away.........gotta run.
Talk soon?
I have seen a lot of recipes with acorn quash lately. I don't know if they are sold in Australia. The recipe looks yummy, perfect for storm conditions!
ReplyDeletePs. I re-linked my flowers because they weren't working!

2012 is the year of the acorn squash for us.def a autumn item tho.
Deletexo
it stayed away from us. 50 miles east wind damage - 50 miles north wind and flooding - 150 miles west snow. do you need to come here for a couple of days?
ReplyDeleteNot this time, but thanks for lovely offer. There are quite a few of us now you know...xo
Deleteworried about marie et al. reports are not good from there, alto i havent heard brooklyn specifically named.
ReplyDeleteBrooklyn seems to be without power. hoping marie gets to power sourc soon and can post an update.
DeleteLooks like a nice way to spend a storm. I was at work trying to confirm jobs for the next day with clients who were closed...an exercise in frustration. Not much damage here but a few tipped over trees and mums. Nothing like the damage we're seeing between NYC and DC. Hope all is well.
ReplyDeleteAll is well. Messy but well. Return to work tomorrow, thank god, can stop eating.
DeleteYou and your crew seem to have Sandy whipped into shape. Way to go!
ReplyDeleteI hope you and the rest of the crew have made it through the night safe and warm. Must be something about the threat of a storm and potential loss of power that brings on an overwhelming hormonal urge to cook. I made a pot roast and baked bread. My SIL made a pot of chili, and my sister made vegetable soup ... all this cooking without consulting each other. While the storm howled outside, at least we ate well.
ReplyDeleteThose kittens get cuter every day!
Such a primal reaction to mother nature: cook. We lost a leyland but it didn't hit our or our neighbor's house. Thank god. Power went off, power came back on. we are lucky.
DeleteHope the headache blew away with Sandy. I'm glad you are safe. What a year for weather! :-)
ReplyDeleteSo glad you weathered the storm. Still waiting to hear from fellow flower farmers, to see if they are still in operation. Hope your headache is gone.
ReplyDeleteGood to hear from you and that you got your priorities right. Eat, eat! In all circumstances.
ReplyDeleteI hope all remains well with you. I don't know....when there is a weather event the sugar always comes out in the kitchen. Calories, carbs, sugar are all acceptable during these times. Stay safe!
ReplyDeleteThat squash looks dreamy--just the kind of thing I love. Maybe I will try something like it. What is it about a storm that brings out the nesting instinct? Unfortunately, my way of dealing with storm anxiety was breaking into the Halloween peanut butter cups.
ReplyDeleteHere we are having heavy winds and storms, its such a strange spring...
ReplyDeletekisses from the vegetable garden!

I stayed home from work and played domestic for a day. Minestrone soup with celery, oregano, and basil harvested from the garden during the height of the storm. The neighbors fared well with no flooding and returned home today.
