Countdown ......To Eternity

We arrived in Connecticut with the bare essentials:12 gallons of water and clean clothes. No candles were allowed. The Hai " hates" candles??? He has 3 of those " little things"??? ( I have just found out the little things are flashlights, solar powered, we don't need any " stupid batteries").

The Hai threw us in a car and we rushed out to get Hurricane necessities: 3 ga-huge lobsters, bottles of wine, butter lettuce, a baguette and for me, the new Elle Decor.

A half pound of melted garlic butter later we made survival plans.

These include a feast with the neighbors where we will grill everything that currently resides in both freezers.

I have just awoken and GG, The Hai and the Lab are gone.  I presume they are securing the boats and will return home with lattes and pastries. I believe cleaning out the gutters is on the list, and I'm thinking all these plants on the deck need to come indoors before they are flung indoors.

You will have to pardon my constant posting, but as the wind rises so does my anxiety level.

The 5 year old in me wants to jump in the car and drive home to the imaginary safely of Virginia.  But the blogger in me insists we stay keeping the Hai company and reporting on the storm.

The only situation I can control is the one on my keyboard.

Buckle up your seatbelts.  It's going to be a bumpy ride.

  1. It is, indeed, and you may be better off there than at home. It will be quite an event in D.C., methinks!

Definitely need to get going on the Hurricane Party, but I do feel like I need to point out that the solar-powered lights will work for a while BEFORE the storm and very well the next day, but you've got at least 12 hours of rain headed your way... with no "solar" to power anything! Perhaps a battery or two.

Stay safe as you can. (Oh, it;s a gorgeous house with a wonderful view! I wish I were there with you.) xo

  2. Your survival kit is much more efficient than mine! Am going to stop for cream for my coffee, matches for our oooodles of candles and garden tomatoes.. and not to forget more Humbolt Fog Goat cheese and pizza dough. Batten down them hatches, Jane and GG! oh, yeah and the Hai who sounds like a very jolly guy, except for the candles. Who doesn't love candles?

  3. I love that your plan involves lobster and Elle Decor - a gal after my own heart! The Beau and I have hunkered down in Brooklyn (A few blocks from one of the evacuation zones) with his two cats, Thankfully, my wee pup is visiting my folks in the Midwest!. The rain has just begun, but we've got wine, brownies, snuggly kitties, The Velvet Underground, MadMen on Netflix... oh, and each other. We'll be just fine. xo

  5. If all else fails, at least you've got Elle Decor and one of those little things.

Off to get some lobster and butter, just in case.

  9. I hope the little things last long enough for you to get through Elle Décor in the dark - this month's issue isn't too thick, I trust? Good luck! If a spirited approach will resolve the situation, you're home and dry.

  10. My anxiety level is rising too. Perhaps you should laminate your Elle Décor and keep an inflated inner tube nearby. A nice ziplock bag filled with snacks taped to your inner tube with waterproof tape could be a good addition to your plan. But seriously, be safe. xx, Denise

  11. Oh dear; I'm worried now too, despite the Elle Decor. Keep posting, won't you.

  12. Oh, I think it's going to be quite unexciting by the time it arrives, don't be worried. Is that the Hai's house? Right on the water is a wee bit exciting :-)

  13. I should have identified the house in the picture immediately, it's a random shot from Falmouth. But since I'm using GG's notebook here instead of my computer I'm afraid to download any more pics until I get the old ones off an a thumb drive.'

She might make me sleep outside if I crash her computer.

If this was Hai's house we would never leave:)

  14. Keep those fingers on the computer - I'm absolutely hooked! (I'm not going to complain about rain again as I've obviously got no idea what REALLY bad weather is!)
