And I've Seen Rain

If only I hadn't promised myself to stay off the topic of weather.  Belinda has awarded me dual citizenship because she says I am as obsessed with the topic as any Brit.

So I can't tell you about the thunderstorms and lightening that have surrounded us and lit up the skies for the past two nights.  Of course this also relieves me of the topic of the plaster falling from the kitchen ceiling.

But I can show you the pictures I downloaded this morning of the garden after the rain.  I wondered where GG had disappeared to last night as I was making dinner. Now I know.  She is clearly obsessed with the purple outside / green inside beans. Not many make it into the kitchen proper, they're too good eaten off the bush.

And the figs are back. GG has taken down the maple tree in the back yard and the figs are lapping up the sunshine again.

A little corner of the path planted with oregano rotundifolium.  It spills, it thrills and it smells like a Mediterranean island.

Until I saw this picture I had no idea we had a tiny watermelon growing on the fence.  As soon I I saw this download I rushed out into the garden to see for myself.  It's true, it's true, the sugar babies are on the way.

I hope your weekend is filled with unplanned moments and a mouthful of fresh fruit.

  1. There is no one who has a deeper and more enduring interest in vegetables and fruit than myself, but I'd ALSO love to hear about the plaster falling off your kitchen ceiling.

  3. I am so envious of your figs. I had 26 on my little tree. And the lovely little squirrels feasted on all 26. I was shocked last week to find 5 new ones. I now have one. Congrats on the sugarbabies. They will be delicious, I'm sure.

  4. Of course you can talk about the weather! That's what we, your British readers, live for!

  5. I love the puple beans too, what enticed me about them in the beginning was the promise of knowing that they were perfectly blanched when they turned green...how cool is that?! Our figs that we bought a few months ago look like that, ours are still indoors as we are waiting until it gets nice and toasty outside.

    Have a wonderful weekend.

I had watermelon twice today already--there is nothing like good fruit.

  7. How strange are those purple beans. There's nothing better than beans off the bush, or tomatoes off the vine.

  9. mise, just another story of love and glory and an attic window whose siding lets in the wind and the rain and fills my white sink with damp plaster. It's raining chunks halleluiah! soon to be fixed.

Kary and Teddy, Nice to see you here. Our first babies...

Bonnie, You need to throw a net over those babies. Now!

Rachel, No wonder I have so many friends in England...it's the weather reports???

Sherrie N., Ah, I did not know this cooking fact. Thank you, now if we can just get them into the house:)

Jen, Close up and personal is so much better isn't it. Can't see the weeds!

Urban, And they grow right next to the Edamame. The fancy soybean:)

Tera, Thanks, now we just have to let it keep growing, not pick it as quickly as our tiny radishes.

Sizzle and Zoom, You can imagine my delight when I found these photos!

  11. All you lack is silver bells and cockle shells - beans, and sugar babies, and figs. You have a veritable treasure trove of good things growing. So glad you got those unmentionable storms. Still nothing beneficial this far south.

    Happy weekend! xoxo

  12. Love your purples beans and the fact that you talk about the weather - what I am used to! And just to comment about your Wedding post previously - how gorgeouss were the bouquets you created...?! lovely colours and so pleased you all had a good day. A lovely relaxed wedding. X

  13. Jane, I really miss a good thunderstorm...I love it when the sky gets dark and moody and although at times terrifying...the thunder and lightening is nature at it's most powerful. When we lived in QLD (northern Australia) the tropical storms were fantastic...especially watching them come in over the ocean...here it just drizzles away...nothing really spectacular! Robx

  16. Great post, Jane. I have precisely three beans, same colour. They don't like the roof. My sugar baby looks like your sugar, baby. And I like the idea of figs lapping up sunshine :-)

  20. you could also be a honourary Albertan - our weather is really wacky because of our proximity to the Rockies, and so is a much talked about topic!
