We awoke to grey skies and the smell of rain to come.
After coffee, the kittens and I skittered about the garden cutting a flower here, pulling a weed there.
Then at 8am the skies opened. The windows and doors were open, music playing and the laundry washing.
I had a pile of new library books, flowers stems and leaves all over the kitchen floor and no possibility of any more garden work. What a perfect Sunday morning.
I filled one vase with monarda, hyrdangea, yarrow, baptisia foliage, geranium, oregano blossoms and bronze fennel.
Heady stuff this.
The taller blue vase had more of the fennel and baptisia, a different hydrangea blossom, hypericum, painted fern and mandevilla vines.
I can smell the fennel as I write this. I made a small bouquet for the kitchen.
Lucy took a nap and the rain continued.
We love our Sundays around here.
Now let's make it a really good Monday.
Show us what you've got.
Let's start with England and Australia.

Your flowers look so beautiful Jane, and for us in the depths of winter, they couldn't shout summer more loudly if they tried. Is that monarda easy to grow? I love it! Amanda xx
ReplyDeleteNot only is it easy it's v. enthusiastic. Given enough sun it will take over the garden.
DeleteObedient unto death as usual. I removed the cuckoo spit and also found a plump green caterpillar on my chest, but forgot to photograph either, sorry.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, as usual. Your hydrangaes look gorgeous as does everything else. I love your blue vases with all the pink.
ReplyDeleteYou're so far ahead of us. I love your bee balm and hydrangea and Queen Anne's lace. It's good to get an all day rain every now and then.
ReplyDeleteI spy the Bee Balm which is one of my favorites. It vanished from my garden after years of lovely blooms.
ReplyDeleteI'm smitten with all three bouquets--so wild and pretty, all those pinks and greens, and wonderful blue vases....It looks like a dreamy beach cottage there at SBC.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a perfect Sunday to me--you had me at rain and windows open, then you added a pile of library books and it was true love.
Did you say music, books, breeze, and rain... throw in a kitty or two... perfect day! Your flowers are lovely and the blue vases divine... the perfect compliment to the pinks. Flower Jane... you just out did yourself! Thanks for hosting. Hope you have a pleasant week.
ReplyDeleteThat first bouquet is just amazing. Sorry I can't muster:(. I'm with you in spirit.
ReplyDeleteOur visiting cat (Tall Cat) would like to tell Lucy that he is her long lost twin. Those blue vases make all your pink flowers sing.
ReplyDeleteLovely, lush combos in the house! And so glad you are making firm friends with Sundays again. Mucho love, hun. xx
ReplyDeleteThere is too much to choose from at this time of year and looks like you've been out collecting from the yard. My monarda is just starting - it's got a shade issue to deal with.

I love Flowers in the House. It's so remarkable that you are about 3 weeks ahead of us and Amanda is just getting in her early spring flowers during her winter in New Zealand.
ReplyDeleteAnd, I love all of your blue vases!
I love all you flowers, but the first picture is gorgeous! We could do with some rain here - send a bit over! Abby x
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are lovely. How do you get that soft natural look. I just can't manage it at all. Lessons, please!!
ReplyDeleteWe didn't get your rain at all - just the beginning of heat and humidity. Blech!
My first house party, thanks for hosting! I've been lurking since I was an assistant in bow street flowers. Happy to join the fun now!
ReplyDeleteSunday was rainy here as well-as is today ( and the rest of the week it looks like). Perfect excuse to finish reading "Life After Life" while the gardens get watered automatically :)
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty flowers everywhere-love the links :)
Grey and rain way over here too. I'm just hanging with my cactus, Stanley. The dahlias are now composted. I need some new flowers in the house, but for now I'll peruse all of the beauty you and your friends have pulled together.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful collection, Jane! Such a great time of year. Please tell Steve that we are known for Lupines in Colorado, thanks. Diane in Denver
ReplyDeleteBeautiful as always! How amazing was that moon over the weekend?! xo
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting; I've just joined the party for the first time! Your blog is always a mini-retreat for me, and I love the connections from around the world at the Flower In The House events. What a lovely idea!
ReplyDeleteJane I am sure your garden is wonderful after seeing these gorgeous arrangements!

Jane, I have been in hiding over the past few months (hang head - Pinterst and Instagram)and Small but charming was my first port of call when I returned to Blogland during the week. The last post I read was in February. Much respect to you my friend. Florists dont normally get flowers for presents and my sweet offerings are for you...Sinead x
ReplyDeleteHi Jane!
ReplyDeleteYour arrangement is lovely! I am so happy to have found a link party that shares flowers in the house. :)) Following you now! I accidentally linked my "most recent" post first & couldn't get it to remove - sorry for that. My 2nd link is the one with flowers in the "house."
Have a great weekend~
Lara
