I have never done a giveaway. I could never think of anything I possessed that someone else might want.
Well, excepting the cats and now S-Man. But none are mine to give away. Just to feed on occasion.
So assuming there might be a person out there who hasn't bought a copy of "66 SquareFeet: A Delicious Life" by the goddess of field and stream Marie Viljoen, and would love to hold her terrace and her recipes in their hands, I offer a copy.
And how do you get lucky? You can either leave a comment with your link or email address if you're not a blogger, or you can send me the inside cardboard flap from your favorite cereal box.
No, don't do that. Just leave a comment.
You'll drool over the pictures, read her poetic prose with an occasional lump in your throat and create some magic in the kitchen on a cool September Sunday by cooking her bouillabaisse.
Marie was my first blogging inspiration. I had read an article about her and the terrace in the NYT and when I went to visit I was enchanted. The spell still holds firm. I got to have lunch with her in New York last week and trust me, she lives up to the legend.
I'll leave this open till September 18th. It's my birthday and seems a good day to give away something of value. This amazing offer is available world wide. I have received books from New York, Massachusetts, France and England via the wonderland of blogs.
My turn to return the favor.
xo Jane
You are also a goddess, and way generous to do this. Don't enter me - too late and better to share the goodness.
ReplyDeleteI love Marie's prose. Am limiting myself to a month a day to make it last.
xoxo, webb
What a generous way to celebrate your birthday! (and I will just say, here, that I exclude myself from the running as my copy is on order)
ReplyDeleteI do hope, one day, to have lunch with Marie. We have shared a bottle of bubbles, but someone didn't think to add food to the "care package!"
Ooooh this is fun! I would love to win your first giveaway - that book looks super cool. :o)
ReplyDeleteJane, I was ready to send the carton top from my Coco Puffs but you don't want it?? Just kidding, used to love CPuffs as a kid.
ReplyDeleteI would love to be part of your first giveaway, I do view 66 SF often and enjoy her writing.
Happy Birthday, fellow Virgo.

Sounds like a fabulous addition to anyone's library -- especially mine! I throw my name in to the hat!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday !! Yes, I am in need of some serious drooling and some inspiration for the cool days and nights to come. Thanks for the offer.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to enter this giveaway...
ReplyDeleteI am going to pop over and check out her blog.
Thank you and I hope that you are having a great week.
Goddess of Storytelling and Orange Cats, I was wondering if you met Marie while in NYC last week! Glad you did. I did not know she inspired you to blog. Interesting.
ReplyDeleteI disqualify myself for the book giveaway, I have several copies already, one for me, others for gifts.
Never heard of the blog or the book.....just one example of the gazillion wonderful undiscovered things to discover.
ReplyDeletewhat a fun giveaway! Happy b-day on the 18th mine is the 16th~
ReplyDeleteI would love to be entered to win Marie's book. I read both of the blogs avidly, though I have never made any comments prior to this...
ReplyDeleteCount me in please, I would to win that book and a story of your lunch together! :)
ReplyDeleteJane,
ReplyDeleteYou are so generous and good. What a mixed state Marie, Vince/Beence and Don Estorbo are in right now-- joy and happiness over the publication of her book, mixed
with sadness & some regrets over their having to leave their beloved 66 Square Feet. I just hope they find a better space, with more room to garden and a kind, empathetic landlord this time. Im not throwing my hat in the ring for a book, various reasons, but thank you for offering it up to others. "May honeybees kiss your blossoms daily," a wish I saw someone post to Marie last year. xo, Diane from (finally rainy) Denver
Happy almost birthday - what a charming book.
ReplyDeleteGood day:)
ReplyDeleteI am full of enthusiasm, knowing that books are coming into existence, where healthy, local products ripening in bright sunlight are playing a main part:)
I am admiring the author and her remarkable lifestyle to which alone I am aspiring.
it would be useful a whit to a magic in autumn kitchen. I am counting on my luck:)
I am greeting from Poland!

ReplyDeleteWhat fun! It looks like a beautiful book. Happy Birthday!!
ReplyDeleteI don't have that book, but I want it so how about happy birthday to me on your birthday :)Yes? And if the cereal tops gets me a leg up just let me know and I'll go out and buy a case of Cap'n Crunch just for you.
ReplyDeletePlease enter me! I read Marie's blog all the time and of course the Estorbo blog...did you see his new scarf? The terrace always looks so magical. If, by some miraculous chance, I win, I will send you my email. I really don't want to post it here...thanks.
ReplyDeleteJane, what a lovely idea. I remove myself from the competition...a first for me. I have my lovely copy of Marie's book close by and I suspect there will be a number of books ordered as Christmas gifts. An early happy birthday to you. I await a post about your lunch with Marie.
ReplyDeleteHappy almost birthday!
ReplyDeleteSign me up! I'd love a book for my birthday!! Gwen N.

What a nice thing to do on your birthday - give and you will receive. Wishing you many happy returns for the 18th from spring in NZ. Love the blog too!
ReplyDeleteHello
ReplyDeleteI only discovered your blog because of Marie's. I love her blog with all its photos and I'm very intrigued by her foraging. In NY parks no less. I am very interested in her book, but my budget is very tight. My husband has stage 4 lung cancer and now I am the only income, meanwhile taking some FMLA time for him, so my income has shrunk even more. Perhaps you will choose randomly, but if you're feeling particularly kind, I would really enjoy the pleasure of her book.. Meanwhile, whether I win or not, it is a pleasure to read your blogs as little oases in the otherwise rather constant stress of my life.
I also came to read your blog through Marie's. What a lovely and appropriate gift.
ReplyDeleteJane - If I inspired you to blog, I hope a book is next. (No pressure, or anything). You have a gift with words.
ReplyDeletex Thank you x
Here you going raising the bar again....xo J. P.S. if I knew what to write about I'd give it a shot!
DeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteI came to your blo from Marie's, so I know that the book should be terrific! I started blogging about gardening just recently, and I try to make my blog be as charming and inspiring as yours. And I really like the simple style of your flower arrangements and would like to make just as beautiful myself.
So...you are a floral designer...I should have guessed that!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend...
Cheers!
Linda :o)
Marie was the first blog that I followed on a regular basis. You are my second. Both of you are inspirations! Because of you, I've started placing flowers in my office every Monday and it is amazing the difference in the energy. Thank you for that. When I read Marie's blog, my taste buds do the jitter bug on the back of my tongue. And what a great give away. If you happen to select me, then I'll send you my address. I'll check back on the 18th. Happy Birthday! Barbara Christopher from Decatur, GA
ReplyDeleteYou have made me so happy. As happy as the weekly flowers make you.

ReplyDelete66 Square Feet and Small But Charming are the blogs I turn to early (4:30) in the morning while I sit with a steaming cup of French roast clearing my mind before a hectic day of elementary school teaching. Marie's photographs and her beautiful way with words and your stories of survival, renewal and small celebrations never fail to both calm and inspire me. And I hope you have a wonderful birthday - maybe a cute girl in an old pickup will drop off a potting bench...or yard decor for you....a cute single girl who is looking for someone who is compassionate, passionate, kind, thoughtful and creative!

From your lips to the Universe's ears!
DeleteWhy stop at one? How about one for me as well! C'mon Universe!
DeleteJane... How thoughtful of you to share such a lovely give-away! Am so pleased to know that you share the birthday of my beautiful daughter-in-love, Gwendolyn. Making note to send wishes for birthday blessings to two special people that day. The book sounds delightful! Toss my name into the mix. Do you plan to let Gus choose the winner? If so, I can send some extra Fancy Feast rather than unappetizing box top!
ReplyDeleteYou have such a kind spirit. Your human and feline housemates are pretty lucky, as are all of us on the blogosphere who have stumbled upon your small but charming world.

DeleteI'm checking in after a week away ... nothing so inspirational or exciting as your jaunt through New England. It's wonderful that you spent time with blogging fellows. We learn so much about each other through what we share, it's natural that in-person meet-ups should be such treats. (I'll bet Steve is just as nice in person as he seems online.)
ReplyDeleteGeez ... and I had that flap from the cereal box all ready to mail in, too. :)
This book looks fantastic == and I don't already have a copy.
ReplyDeleteSeems there should be special club for those of us who read you and Steve and Marie religiously! Houses and gardens and cooking and flowers and cats.... Happy birthday.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Alison xx
Blogworld is small, isn't it! I won't enter the giveaway for several dull reasons, but want to wish you a very happy birthday! x
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful give-away -- please enter me. I loved reading your posts about Boston and Maine. We have connections: Bow St. Shelley is a friend from graduate school and she turned me onto your blog some time ago: I love it!! Happy Birthday!
